Parent Involvement Leads to Involved Students at Lobo
There are many factors that lead to increased student achievement. One factor that has a profound impact is parent involvement. A research study conducted by Walberg found that an academically stimulating home environment...has an average effect on achievement that is twice as large as a families socioeconomic status. Student achievement improves when parents express high (realistic) expectations for their children's achievement and future careers. Student achievement improves when parents become involved in their children's education at school and in the community. In additon Steinberg states, When parents come to school regularly, it reinforces the view in the child's mind that school and home are connected-and that school is an integral part of the whole families life.
Lobo is proud to say that we provide many opportunities for involvement with your child. Working in the classrooms, attending field trips, working with PTA and/or Boosters are just a few ways to become involved. Working parents can also be involved by staying in touch with your child's teacher and establishing a homework routine that helps your child make the home-school connection.
As this new year continues, I hope that all parents make a renewed commitment to be involved in their child's education. Schools cannot do it alone, and our chidren deserve the very best education possible. Let's continue to work together on the behalf of our children.
