Did You Know?

Clarence Lobo Elementary School opened its doors in September 1994 and is the first school in California to be named after a Native American.  Clarence Lobo was Chief of the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians for nearly four decades until his death in 1985.  Chief Lobo devoted his life to acquiring land rights and recognition for his people.  Our students and staff remain inspired by the spirit of this great man and are proud to help maintain his legacy.

The instructional program at Lobo focuses on an integrated curriculum and teamwork.  All students are provided a rich learning environment that targets the California State Performance Standards while also providing for the special needs of individual students.  Teachers work together to plan activities that can be modified to provide extra challenge for accelerated students or appropriate work for children with learning disabilities.  An inclusive environment has been a key component our school, with special education teachers working closely together with regular education teachers.

Music and art are important components of a well-rounded education.  In addition to the district music program provided for fourth and fifth grade students and our PTA sponsored primary music program, Lobo provides two enrichment programs for the entire school.  The first is the Meet the Masters program, which is also sponsored and funded by our PTA.  Each month a famous artist is featured in a lecture and then the children create a work of art based on the style of the selected artist.  Lobo is also a Class Act school.  This grant program creates a partnership with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.  Each year a famous composer is selected for study, and the children learn about his life, his music and the components of a symphony orchestra.  A member of the symphony becomes our resident musician.  At the end of the year, the entire student body attends a concert at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Isn't it great to know what an excellent school Lobo is!
